School Avenue Sidewalk Project
What is this project?
The crew has constructed a new, six-foot sidewalk on the east side of School Ave. between MLK Blvd. and 9th St. There are plans to continue the sidewalk to 15th St, pending right-of-way approval.
Why is it important?
This sidewalk connects the existing sidewalks on MLK Blvd. to the Frisco Trail. The Frisco Trail is a part of the Razorback Greenway and crosses S. School Ave.
What is the current status?
The project is complete to 9th St. Additional right-of-way must be obtained before the project is fully complete.
How was this project funded?
Funding for this project comes from the Street Fund. The Street Fund is financed through two sources: 1) turn-back revenues from the State of Arkansas. The State collects motor fuel taxes, which are returned to the city on a per-capita basis. 2) turn-back monies received from the County Road Millage Tax. The City receives 80% of the road millage levied by the Quorum Court on real and personal property located within the City.
