The City of Fayetteville is focusing on efficiency and sustainability in its personnel policies as well as its equipment and fleet. The Fleet Division is an industry leader in the implementation and evaluation of alternative fuel and energy reduction options.
The Fleet Superintendent will direct all activities pertaining to the acquisition, maintenance and repair of the city’s heavy equipment, vehicles, and other equipment within the City’s vehicle and equipment pool. This person will supervise a 16 person division and be responsible for effective and efficient operation of the maintenance and acquisition functions.
Performs supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsible for overall management of the entire consolidated municipal vehicle fleet.
Develops and administers policies, goals, and objectives for the fleet operations division.
Plans and directs procurement, maintenance and disposal of vehicles and equipment for all city departments.
Develops policies and procedures for operation of vehicle maintenance shop.
Develops and recommends schedule for replacement and depreciation based on life expectancy, condition and use.
Develops fee schedules for vehicles, equipment and budget for maintenance and replacement.
Liaison to council equipment committee regarding vehicle procurement and replacement.
Reviews requests for special equipment, determine availability, recommend proper application, write specs and manage procurement.
This position will assist with all duties associated with the Urban Forestry Program. Duties include routine maintenance of newly planted trees, pruning, mulching and an emphasis on watering.
.1. Coordinate and manage all telecommunications services and requests for all City of Fayetteville divisions.
2. Install cabling systems to include copper (voice and data) and broadband coax which includes station, riser, runner and trunk facilities; work involves working with inside and outside plant facilities and includes termination, connection and splicing.
3. Install telecommunications system and add-on apparatus as needed.
4. Install and program desk top telephone products such as telephone instruments, answering machines, voice mail and busy lamp modules.
5. Program and administer telecommunications system; perform routine programming and feature changes as requested by users.
6. Install data circuits such as local and wide area networks and synchronous and synchronous data switching systems.
7. Provide services in a medium size multi-site enterprise, including Cisco or Nortel CS1000 administration and Nortel Call Pilot administration.
8. Test cable facilities to determine integrity of cable systems by operating specialized testing equipment.
9. Locate, diagnose and resolve problems in telecommunication network systems.
10. Configure telephone circuits in a computerized branch exchange to facilitate moves, adds and changes (MACS) work; determine efficient configuration of user telephone instruments.
11. Configure installation of cable systems consistent with low energy electrical and fire codes
12. Compile data base of all structured cabling systems, network interfaces and system installation through a cable facilities management system; track inventory of all telecommunications equipment.
13. Develop growth projections and future capacity requirements for the City’s telecommunications system and operational needs.
14. Perform cell phone and pager programming and troubleshooting; assist users with daily operations of cell phones and pagers.
15. Make recommendations for integration of new VOIP sites into existing environment..All City of Fayetteville positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Other essential duties of this position include the following:
1. Operate dump truck.
2. Assist with hand labor for asphalt, concrete or other material as needed.
3. Proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
4. Operate concrete saws to make necessary cuts in order to continue work flow.
5. Operate loaders, tree trimmers and other construction equipment as needed.
6. Assist with snow and ice removal during winter months.
7. Assist with laying pipe as needed.
8. Operate other tools as needed: chainsaw, chipper, compacter and street saws.

15. Maintain truck and equipment for service, cleanliness, order and hydration.
16. Maintain all related tools.
17. Check oil in truck and fuel level in all equipment.
18. Drive backhoe and dump truck as required.
19. Perform manual labor in the use of a shovel as required. Execute all actions to protect the public health and safety in accordance with all applicable water and sewer regulationsPerforms inventory control under general supervision to ensure that adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are kept on hand for the efficient operation of the Public Works department. Work involves responsibility for repair and maintenance of all construction equipment used in the department, obtaining accurate price quotations, ordering materials, maintaining and accounting for inventory supplies. Work also involves significant clerical record keeping responsibilities and other duties as assigned.

This position consists of semi-skilled physical work and operation of a variety of light to medium automotive vehicles and equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City public works and utility facilities. Employees of this class operate single-axle dump trucks, brush-hog mowers, roller compactors, and other pieces of equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, drainage structures, water and sewer lines, and other public works facilities. Duties may also include building renovation. Work is performed under general supervision and is governed by established policies.
